What’s new with us
2004 .. 5 Why am I not surprised that we’re all behind again. Pat has been to Paducah (to a big US quilt show), And won yet another rosette (but no cup) for a quilt at Malvern. We have a new rabbit (well two actually, but I’m behind with photos of the second one). Dave is frantically loading all his old LPs and cassette tapes onto CD and MP3 (or rather .WMA) files on the computer(s), since the cassette deck is on its last legs.
Dave has also been out walking (1,000 miles and counting), and has been signed up by Shropshire Council to survey the state of the footpaths and bridleways as he walks them. To this end he has now equipped himself with a shiny new GPS handset, and is developing maps for it (because you can’t actually buy any). There are 204 parishes in Shropshire, and so far he has surveyed all of 4 of them, so he’ll be at it a while. *grin*. More details (and copy of the map, for Garmin handsets) on the maps page
For the past two years Pat has been working - among other things - on a series of *small quilts on mathematical topics*. These have now been completed and delivered to Grosvenor Exhibitions, who are including them in their Spring Quilt Festivals (between February and April this year). They will also probably be included in Quiltfest in Llangollen in Spring 2006.'

Pat is
Into patchwork and quilting in a big way - you know, the cunning art of taking a square yard of left over material, buying 3 more yards of new material to go with it, cutting it all up, sewing it back together, and ending up with half a square yard of ‘Texttile art’ (plus two square yards of left over material).
Highlights of her quilting year are the national shows (e.g. ‘Quilts UK’ at Malvern, each spring), and having some of her articles published in ‘Patchwork and Quilting’ magazine. See More Quilts for her 2002 award winner. And Yet More Quilts for 2003 and later.
She also spends many hours gardening (between April and October) and caring for the many Pets.
Pat’s Internet use is on the increase, and she is an active member of two Yahoo quilting groups, and the News:rec.crafts.textiles.quilting newsgroup. |

Dave is
The general Mr Fixit. He also grows Cacti (and other succulents), which thrive on neglect, he hopes.
Also a big fan of Dwarf Conifers, which grow quite nicely given the local rainfall. For Usenet (Newsgroup) purposes, Dave also appears as ..
GSV ‘Three Minds in a Can’
With apologies (or is it thanks?) to Iain M. Banks and Jerome K. Jerome, in equal measure. If you still don’t have a clue, check out the SF pages for some recommended reads (start with _Consider Phlebas_ or _Excession_).
GSV posts in various newsgroups on such topics as computing, computer games, science fiction, digital photography, and finance. Apart from playing CRPG games, he also beta tests software, and writes some for his own amusement. |

ABOUT US
We live over 1000 feet up, between the two highest points in Shropshire, England, where the climate (to quote the locals) consists of ‘6 months of Winter, and 6 months of bad weather’. This turns out to be a slight exaggeration, and, when the sun shines, it is glorious.
Apart from Pat, Dave (aka the mysterious GSV), the household consists of copious pet animals (click link for details), plus a good few that live in the garden without benefit of any permission (see wildlife for those we’ve caught so far). |

This is us .. from across the valley, up on Brown Clee hill. Easier to see in the second picture (from the same spot) courtesy of the 10x zoom on the Olympus C2100-UZ. These photos were taken in June .. Hence the ‘May’ (Hawthorn) blossom is out. |

Technical Details.
Our local computer network consists of home-built Athlon 1.33Ghz and Athlon XP3000+ machines, both with 512MB RAM, both running Windows XP Pro, linked by a 100 Mbit Ethernet LAN, with a Draytek Vigor 2600X switch/router/firewall giving ISDN Internet access (and all ready for ADSL, should it even make it out here).

Part of the walking route from our house to Brown Clee (avoiding most of the roads). Some agility required. And the view back (again) when you get there .. On the left (in the picture below, left) are the woods of the Boyne estate. |
